pARTy! This year, we’re celebrating Valentine’s Day by throwing not one, but two parties -- a Friday evening party as well as a Saturday morning party -- for some of our favorite CleanRite Cleaning and Verhaeghe Farms people!

What a festive Friday night we enjoyed with pizza, charcuterie boards, sweet treats, and wine/open bar coupled with canvas painting with a “heart” theme!

Saturday morning was Party #2, complete with smoked ham, pork hocks, pork sausage for gravy, and homegrown eggs from Verhaeghe Farms! We also enjoyed Bloody Marys and Mimosas!

In addition, the guests learned some fun facts about Valentine’s Day and took home some mementos from CleanRite Cleaning and Verhaeghe Farms!

We’d like to give a big shout out to Corinne from Cors Delights (who is available on Facebook at Cors Delights, Instagram @Cors_Delight, email at corinne.conway@aol.com, or phone at 574-540-9894). Corinne provided an array of specialty cheeses and meats, veggie platters, fruit trays, and delicious goodies, including chocolate covered strawberries and truffles. Needless to say, we were impressed and spoiled!

We’d also like to give a resounding thank you to Lisa Bemish, an artist from Get Your Party On! The Twelve Days of Christmas - we all recognize this cheery song during the holidays. This year, as we approached Christmas Day, we celebrated our amazing CleanRite crew by making a few tweaks to the traditional gifts mentioned in the song. Buffalo Wild Wings gift cards replaced the French hens, a bird feeder replaced the calling birds, golden eggs stuffed with cash replaced the geese a’laying, and so on.

On Tuesday evening, the American Legion presented me with a special award, which I will forever treasure, for “the volunteer time given to American Legion Post 365 due to Covid-19.”

I’m humbled to receive this award on behalf of my entire CleanRite staff. I’m truly blessed with a crew that is so hardworking and dedicated.

Looking back a year, I recall the unknown future our community faced when it was forced to shut down. Some businesses sat empty for weeks. No income but the bills were still coming in. The new rules and procedures to administer once businesses opened their doors were daunting. A “new normal” impacted us all.

I felt it was better to give back and help some of our local non-profit organizations and businesses. The crew rallied, jumping on board wholeheartedly and giving it their all. I could not be more proud of the CleanRite employees and their amazing work ethic!

Thank you to the American Legion for this award and for all you do for your community! We appreciate you!

CleanRite Cleaning Services cleaned the Clemens Vonnegut Jr. House (Old East Shore Drive) in Culver before another group of people who rented the house arrived.

Other renters had left at 9 a.m. and all the bedrooms, baths, laundry, and other areas of the house were detailed/cleaned before the next family came by 4 p.m.

The church services currently are being held outside on Sunday mornings with the outside building open for bathrooms.

As the world continues to learn more about COVID-19, we at CleanRite are staying abreast of the current news and adapting our protocols as necessary.

Currently, we should all watch out for the following symptoms:

• Congestion or runny nose
• Sore throat
• Cough
• Fever
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Loss of taste and/or smell
• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Nausea or vomiting
• Muscle pain and/or fatigue
• Chills

I am continuing to check in with employees before each account to make sure they are symptom-free. If anyone does develop symptoms, I will touch base with you immediately. If anyone at your account has any of these symptoms or is being tested or has tested positive, please advise us so we can reschedule your appointment. We want our staff and customers healthy.

How is your summer? For the gals at CleanRite, summertime means we’re busy, busy, busy!

Did you catch a glimpse of the spring cleaning article in the South Bend Tribune’s magazine at home places on Sunday, April 12th?! South Bend Tribune Correspondent Kathy Borlik wrote an informative article called “Freshen Up” about the enduring appeal of spring cleaning and taking the time “to clear the house of clutter and cobwebs.” She includes hints on spring cleaning, and the gals and I were excited that CleanRite received a shout out and was quoted in the article!

CleanRite gals are sporting new masks, embracing each new day with our heads up, thanks to Kim Clark, who made these beautiful and functional masks for us to use as a barrier against COVID-19. Our normal before is something we look forward to returning to; however, until then we will embrace our new normal as we continue to serve our clients. Going forward, I plan on touching base with employees and accounts, making sure that neither one has the following:
Runny nose
Sore throat
Cough
Fever
Difficulty breathing
I plan on communicating with everyone daily before each account, keeping everyone in the loop in the weeks to follow.
As I touch base with the ladies daily, if by chance they have any symptoms, I will advise you and we will decide what we want to do.

Every day, we approach our job with the same goal: to provide our residential and commercial clients with the highest level of cleanliness. To help prevent exposure to the COVID-19 virus, we are continuing to do the same; however, we would like to take the time to emphasize that we are taking extra precautions to help contain the spread of this deadly virus. For all of us, here are some general reminders:

Practice good hygiene
• Wash hands with soap frequently and properly for 20 seconds at a time.
• Use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.
• Maintain non-contact forms of greetings.
• Practice social distancing.
• Cover coughs and sneezes.
• Disinfect surfaces (counters, tabletops, handles, light switches, phones, steering wheels, etc.)

Practice good habits
• We are communicating with each employee and client to make sure there are no signs of the virus
(fever, dry cough, muscle aches, fatigue, and shortness of breath). Additional symptoms may include runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, headache, and diarrhea.
• We are depending on our clients to communicate with us if they have been exposed to COVID-19 or have tested positive; likewise, we will not send staff on jobs if they have been exposed or tested positive to the virus.
• Our staff is wearing gloves as a protective measure.
• We are disinfecting any locations you could touch, and you should be disinfecting surfaces on a daily basis. This is important as the virus can survive for hours to days, depending on the surface.

We are all in this together and wish you continued good health. Please follow all recommendations from the CDC and contact your physician if you have any symptoms.

CleanRite owner is Dawn M. Gorby-Verhaeghe, whose home office is in Walkerton, Indiana. After graduating from John Glenn High School, Dawn went on to graduate from Ferris State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 1996. She also holds an Associate’s Degree from Southwestern Michigan College (1991) and a Management Degree from Ivy Tech College (1991).

Dawn waitressed and cleaned homes throughout college, fitting her work responsibilities around her school schedule. From an early age, she learned from her family the importance of a clean house. While she was growing up, her home was always cleaned weekly and spring cleaning was an annual event during Spring Break.

In 2000, Dawn started CleanRite Cleaning Services, not only to run a successful business from her home and stay home with her children, but also to help others enjoy a clean home or business. She now has 16 dynamic employees.

In 2007, CleanRite Cleaning Services serviced 30 residential accounts as well as 15 weekly commercial accounts. This number does not include many one-day jobs; apartment cleaning; initial cleaning for new homes, remodeled residences, and fire restoration jobs; job site cleanup; and window cleaning.

In 2008, CleanRite Cleaning Service serviced over 80 residential accounts and 18 commercial accounts.

In 2010, CleanRite serviced 75 Residential Accounts and 24 Commercial Accounts.

In 2011, CleanRite serviced 128 Residential Accounts and 23 Commercial Accounts.

In 2012, CleanRite serviced 147 Residential Accounts and 23 Commercial Accounts.

In 2013, CleanRite serviced 107 Residential Accounts and 27 Commercial Accounts.

OF OUR GENERAL CLEANING CHECKLIST KITCHEN: All surfaces are washed and wiped down, the sink is scoured. Inside cabinets, drawers, refrigerator, oven and dishwasher are not cleaned. Window above sink cleaned. Cabinets wiped down, vinegar coffee pot (monthly).

FLOORS: All floor areas are cleaned. Carpets and area rugs are vacuumed. Tile/hardwood are cleaned to your request.

BATHROOMS: The entire bathroom is cleaned. The only areas in the bathroom not cleaned are inside cabinets, drawers, ceiling.

DUSTING: Furniture cleaned, window ledges and sills and lamp shades. Cobwebs, ceiling fans, light fixtures, baseboards, pictures, cold air returns, above doors (monthly).

WINDOWS: Main doors in and out.

TRASH: Gathered and taken out and replaced with new liners.

ITEMS NOT DONE ON GENERAL CLEANING: Dishes, inside cabinets, wash laundry, make bed, ironing, inside fireplace, wash walls or ceilings and wax floors.

Friendly Reminder on all Accounts If you go longer than a month on your regular cleaning schedule of not having your account cleaned the following cleaning appointment will be charged at our hourly rate at your next scheduled visit. This is due to the ladies will have to work twice as hard and do an initial in every area they normally clean.
